Controller (Hospitality)

Franklin, TN

The Controller is responsible for the full cycle accounting for a portfolio of hotel properties. Duties include: overseeing and participation in preparing and maintaining accurate financial records by performing a variety of accounting tasks, applying accepted procedures, and preparing financial, statistical, and/or technical reports within the existing internal control framework.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monthly and annual close procedures for a portfolio of hotels
  • Oversee and participate in preparation, detailed analysis, and reconciliation of:
  • Financial statements, general ledgers, budget to actual variances, cash flow projections
  • Provide accounting support and partnership to the portfolios’ managers by participating in monthly review of financial statements
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to both internal and external stakeholders including Lenders and Partners
  • Perform daily activities such as posting daily sales and cash journal entries
  • Actively participate in the annual budget process
  • Record and maintain fixed asset purchases and applicable depreciation and amortization schedules
  • Assist in meeting Tax Compliance including, Annual Corporate Tax Filings and Monthly Sales Tax Filings
  • Assist with internal and external Audit requests
  • Wide knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Complete ad hoc requests

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality, Business or related field
  • Knowledge and deep understanding of all aspects of hotel operations
  • 5+ years of experience in an accounting/finance environment
  • Multi-entity experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel knowledge required
  • Experience with M3 Accounting system a plus

Necessary Skills and Attributes:

Knowledge of general ledger systems, financial chart of accounts, and corporate procedures

Detail oriented and well-organized

Excellent verbal, comprehension, listening, and problem-solving skills

Possess strong organizational and time management skills

Effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize responsibilities and goals

Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
